Used for centuries in traditional Chinese temples, these crescent-shaped wooden blocks—known as Shengbei—offer a simple yet powerful way to seek guidance from the divine.
Each set includes two blocks, traditionally carved from wood. To use them, focus on your question, then gently toss the blocks onto a flat surface. The way they land reveals an answer—yes, no, maybe, or a strong warning—not through magic, but through a sacred ritual of reflection and connection.
Perfect for spiritual seekers, collectors, or those curious about ancient wisdom, Shengbei provide a beautiful and meaningful tool to help you slow down, center yourself, and explore life’s questions with intention.
Different conbinamtions represent different answers:
-
One flat side up, one round side up — this is known as Sheng Gua (Sacred Response), symbolizing a balance of yin and yang. It means approval, permission, or that things will proceed smoothly.
-
Both flat sides up (both round sides down) — this is called Yang Gua (Double Yang). It indicates that the deity's will is undecided. The outcome may be difficult and should be approached cautiously.
-
Both round sides up (both flat sides down) — this is known as Yin Gua (Double Yin). It signifies rejection or disapproval. The divine cannot offer support, and success is unlikely. Proceeding against this sign may lead to misfortune or obstacles.
-
Both blocks land upright on their pointed edges or stand on edge — this is called Dun Gua (Shield Omen), interpreted as an ominous sign. It strongly warns against taking action, as it may result in serious harm or danger.
